Rain… lots

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

Well I am in Computer Science right now and am a bit bored… not really motivated to do anything. As the title says, we are getting lots of rain. It started last night and from what I have seen… it hasn’t stopped. Ridiculous I say… I thought that an advantage of leaving Washington would be some better weather. Ohh well… hopefully it will stop soon.

Well tonight should be interesting… I have to write a two page paper for Principles of Management. Joy! Tomorrow is the Career Fair and that should be alright. Even though I was planning on going… we are required to for the management class. But, that means that there is no class… we just have to go up to three of the company reps and ask them each one question. Should be nice and easy. And, if I am lucky, I might be able to find an internship or something for the summer. That would be real nice.

I think after Biblical Literature today I will go in to the library and try to find the Tech Director lady… I really need to talk to her about getting a job. I am tired of not having much to do… and I need to get involved in sound or IT to keep my sanity.

One great thing about having a four day Fall Break is a three day school week. Only five more classes until the weekend! Not too shabby.

Well I have been an IE fan for a long time but after using the newest version of IE… version 7 for almost a month and a half… it just won’t cut it for me. Too many weird things that I just couldn’t get used to. Last week I noted that I was trying Firefox out… which was then version 1.5 and I was starting to really like it. For those that don’t know… Firefox is a web browser, just like Internet Explorer. So last night I was browsing around and noticed that a new version of Firefox came out… version 2.0. I am definitely hooked on Firefox now. There are just so many things that are so much better. From tabbed browsing, password manager, download manager, built in search, etc. Granted, IE 7 has a lot of these features but Firefox just does a better job of it.

Two more days until fall break!

Well not too much to report in on.  Next Monday and Tuesday is Fall Break so no classes.  Totally excited for that.  I only have 3 classes to go… Management, Accounting and Bib Lit.  Not too shabby.  Accounting exam on Friday so we shall see how that goes.
Well today was nice and relaxing, all I did was do a bunch of reading online.  No homework to do for class on Thursday which was real nice.  I came across a site that had information on how to rip DVDs and put them on the iPod which was real cool.  And to top it all off… it was all with completely free software… no shareware or trialware!

I also did a lot of research into ‘Portable Applications’.  Portable Apps are cool because they don’t need to be installed in order to be used.  One thing that bugs me about the lab computers here is the fact that everything you saved on the machine gets erased upon reboot… so if you create favorites, save a file on the desktop, etc… it will all be gone when you reboot.  So by using Portable Apps run off of my 2gb usb drive, I am able to take the software [with my settings] around with me and use it anywhere.  Pretty cool.
For some reason I am not in a very talkative mood tonight… I am pretty tired so that must be why.  Well I think it is time to take a shower and hit the hay.

Music for today is still the new Snow Patrol cd… so good.

Peace

Procrastinating

Well I don’t feel like doing homework right now, it is 1AM, so I decided I would give the blog an update. This weekend was awesome. I went on a road trip with Dave, Jason and Joel to Lufkin, TX. It was two hours away and lots of fun. The only goal was to get out of Longview for a while and have some fun. We went to the mall there and walked around… nothing fancy. They had a Bank of America ATM so I was excited… since there isn’t one in Longview. On the way in to town we noticed some of those search lights up in the sky so we decided to follow them. It was a fair of some sort so we took some pictures and continued on. Long story short, we ended up circling the town about 5 times… not sure how that happened. On the way back we stopped at Burger King and got some grub. We are going to try to make roadtrips a weekly occurrence, just to get away for a few hours.

This week there is something going on called Fall Fest. Every floor chooses a theme and dresses in it. We are the Scotts. So about 10 of us are going to go around in kilts and such all week. We spent most of Saturday carving swords out of 2×4’s. There are lots of activities going on all week, Friday is a banquet.

I decided to order a stereo receiver a few weeks ago and it arrived on Monday. At first I thought it was fried because when I plugged it in, the breaker on the outlet blew. I didn’t really feel like messing with it then so I passed it off for a while. On Thursday I was bored so I decided to give it another go. The guy I got it from said that it was working fine so I knew something must have been wrong. After trying it in another outlet, all was well. I don’t know why I didn’t try that in the first place. Ohh well. So I now have some extremely sweet computer speakers. A pair of $200 Bose 201 Bookshelf speakers. Wow. They sound amazing. My dad bought them way back when and after upgrading our home theater system at home to a Kenwood setup, I ended up inheriting them. All I need now is a subwoofer. I think when I am home for Christmas I am going to build one.

Well I just saw that my phone showed that mom called so I better give them a ring. Hopefully they aren’t in bed yet.

Peace.

Suprise…
